As an estate agent chain, Town and County never impressed us sufficiently to persuade us to sell any house through them. Why? Well, because the three Town and County branches in our area are about the dingiest, worst-kept estate agents in the two towns. The store-front looks dark, to begin with, and inside it's worse. The carpets look as if they need to be ripped out and burnt, and the office equipment looks very old.
We've never used them to sell, but when house-hunting we have been in and out several times. They seem only to deal with the very cheapest houses in the area - in my area, that means between £10,000 and £60,000. Nothing any more upmarket than that, so if you're looking for a decent property to buy, you won't find it at Town and Country.
Their details aren't impressive at all; it looks, to begin with, as if they haven't varied their presentation for about twenty years. The details seem to be produced as cheaply as possible; while other agents have moved to glossy brochures in some cases, or well-laid-out leaflets in others, the Town and County leaflets are in old-fashioned typeface, dense layout, and appear cheap. They don't seem to print too many copies, either, and more often than not you'll be given a photocopy. A *black and white* photocopy - which doesn't do a lot for the photograph of the property. They even have photocopies of house details in their window display!
Maybe they are better than the Halifax in terms of the service they provide, but their image, as seen by us as potential buyers, never encouraged us to consider them.
